“We work with infinite precision on an unalterable support”

On a daily basis, we work with an unalterable medium: the sapphire disc; to a rare degree of precision: on the scale of the nanometer. Just how small is “nano”? One nanometer is 25 million times smaller than an inch. A sheet of paper is about 100,000 nm thick. One nanometer is about as long as your fingernail grows in one second.

The sapphire disc

Natinsa’s sapphire disc is 4 inches diameter and 1/25 of an inch thick. It is resistant to fire, salt water, scratches, x-rays and all chemicals. It also allows taking High Resolution pictures. The lifespan of a sapphire disc is over 2 million years.

Nano-engraving

Nano-engraving is achieved by depositing a metallic film on the sapphire disc, applying a stencil with microscopic openings reproducing the text, and removing part of this film through the stencil with the help of a plasma.

The Nanoscope

To view our disc, we provide a nanoscope, which is connected by wifi to your smartphone and/or tablet. It also offers the possibility to take High Definition pictures.
